HOW TO PROPERLY OBTAIN A RESPIRATOR

  1. Call the ORCBS Occupational Safety Team to discuss the hazards to be encountered, and determine if an assessment needs to be performed.
  2. Do not buy a respirator!
  3. Schedule a “Respirator Medical at the Occupational Health Clinic at Olin, 3-9137
  4. Schedule a “Respirator Fit Test” with the ORCBS, 50-153. You may schedule a fit test right after your medical.
  5. For the fit test, bring your medical approval card, and men must be clean shaven where the mask will seal on the face. Mustache and Gotee are acceptable as long as no hair interferes with the sealing of the mask.
  6. During the fit test you will be given options for masks. You may choose a comfortable mask.
  7. When you pass the fit test, you will be given ordering information, cartridge selection and change out information.
  8. You will need a fit test annually, and will be sent a reminder email.
