Principal
Investigator Absences
Principal investigators
may be occasionally absent from the laboratory for various reasons.
During such absences, another individual must be named to assume the
responsibility for the correct usage and management of radioactive
materials. When the absence is less than 60 days, a responsible graduate
student or technician may be appointed to assume responsibility. If
the absence is greater than 60 days, an alternate principal investigator
with the appropriate radioisotope approvals must be designated, and
must agree to assume responsibility.
The ORCBS
must be notified in writing of the absence duration and the name
of the alternate principal investigator who will oversee the uses
of radioactive materials during the absence prior to departure.
The stand-in PI must have all the authorizations necessary to oversee
the uses of the radioactive materials possessed by the absent PI.
The ORCBS must be notified in advance of the intended absence. During
the absence, shipments will still be logged under the absent principal
investigator's inventory, but all oversight will be conducted by
the stand-in PI.
